| VAC Introduction |
| |
| |
| |
The M.V. Hospital for diabetes at Royapuram Chennai became the first private hospital in India to introduce the Vacuum Assisted Device (VAC) of the KCI Company based in USA in healing the diabetic foot wounds. |
| |
| |
[Wounds in] [people with Diabetes] are very difficult to heal due to several factors like poor blood supply, neglect by patients and late presentation to specialists. |
| |
| |
This new technology called VAC was introduced in USA, Europe and other countries earlier and is a very popular method for wound healing. |
| |
| |
The recently introduced technique of topical negative pressure therapy (TNP) also called as Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC), is a noninvasive, dynamic and unique system that helps promote wound healing. VAC applies a controlled negative pressure to the surface of the wound with the help of the tubing, which decompresses continuously or intermittently. An application of topical negative pressure to wound accelerates the rate of new tissue formation. |
| |
| |
Clinicians prescribe VAC therapy for many chronic, acute, sub acute and traumatic wounds in the hospital, extended care facility and in home care. VAC therapy has following clinical benefits: |
| |
| |
- It provides a closed moist wound-healing environment, which helps encouraging granulation of tissue growth at, wound site and reduces contamination from outside bacteria.
- Decreases wound volume, which drawn the wound together, approximating the wound edges.
- Removes excess fluid that can inhibit wound healing by decreasing bacterial colonization at wound site.
